Pot Metal Mirror Base Repair

by April <ibinmore@oc-net.com>

To fix mirror bases made from pot metal, such as are fitted to the GTV6, check out your local independent jeweller. I used to work in that business, and there are some jewellers that specialize in the repair of costume jewellery made of pot metal.

To find them, contact an upscale department store that sells costume jewellery and find out does their repair work. The repair shop may not want to contaminate their equipment with bronze castings, but they should be able to repair the original piece. Do not go to just any jeweller, as there are more ways to destroy things, than there are to fix them.

If you decide to try glue, avoid regular epoxy. Repeated exposure to moisture will destroy the bond (as on pearl earrings in the shower). Crazy glue is even worse. Find an aircraft quality adhesive to ensure a solid fix.
